Happy Earth Day

I've toyed with the idea of posting about my plants, and since it's Earth Day today, I thought why not?

I've never been much of a green thumb. Actually have always had more of a black thumb, I tend to kill my plants. But this year I'm trying to be more "green", and I'm planning on starting a garden in the backyard, right outside from my kitchen.

I want to grow edibles, so a few weeks ago Justin and I bought some seeds and planters at the Dollar Tree and I've been really working hard to keep some baby plants alive. I'm doing kitchen herbs and starter pods of vegetables.

Sweet Basil is coming in nice and thick! Since this picture was taken I've thinned the pot down a lot.
Parsley also came in very well too.
Rosemary has been pretty stubborn... with the first little sprout just showing up in the past few days.
This is lettuce. It came in WAY fast and WAY thick.
From the picture I have no idea what this is... either cucumber (the little sprouts of cucumber already smell like a real cucumber) or green peppers. Not sure.
And I've been doing really well with the hydrangea Justin bought be a couple months ago. This plant can't go outdoors because they don't do well in CO weather and it has to be watered a lot.
This little guy is a hydrangea Justin bought me last year that I pretty much killed, but I've been watering it anyway and look! It's coming back! It already has a few tiny pink flowers.
Sideways pic (sorry, lazy this morning) of the birds nest on our porch. The little finches have come back. Yay!
And I'm also proud of myself for not killing this Christmas poinsettia (yet). Did you know that it's a myth that poinsettias are poisonous? Yeah... I learned that last week when I realized Eisley had gotten a hold of a tiny (dried and dead) leaf that was on the floor during one of her crawling excursions. I flipped and decided to Google before calling poison control and was completely relieved to read on MayoClinic.com that poinsettias are actually harmless. To pets and children. Nice.

Happy Earth Day!

Smiles & Halloween Decor

Eisley is sleeping less and getting more active during the day. It's been fun to see her personality start to come out of the woodwork. She's like her daddy, I think, calm and easy going for the most part, her 7pm "Witching Hour" is becoming much less frequent and we're getting better at calming her down. Parenting is all about trial & error, right?

She gives us lots of smiles now! No laughs yet, but I can sense them coming, its just a matter of time...

Yesterday I got some Halloween decorating done. I didn't go all out like I did last year (because we're not having our yearly Halloween party - sad) but I at least wanted to get a little bit up. Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday, but unfortunately black and orange aren't usually colors I decorate with. So when I throw in my Halloween decorations, I think it looks kinda funny. But it makes me happy and that's what matters right?

Pink Foo Dog, as always, protecting the fireplace.

I made this garland last year with photoshop, scrapbooking paper, German glass glitter, and ribbon. I quite fancy it. Not sure if my Halloween figurines fit in with my girly aqua decor... meh.

This sign was found last year at Michael's. I'm not sure which I love more - Michael's or Hobby Lobby?

My little girl bust likes to sport her witch hat to get into the Halloween season:

This sign is a souvenir from our trip last year to Walla Walla for Meghan's wedding. I got it in the CUTEST shop in downtown Walla Walla. It says, "LOW FLYING WITCHCRAFT". Love it.

That's all.

Long Post: Beer, Prayers Please, and Cleaning Day

First, congrats to Noah our BIL and Eis's uncle (I forgot to mention with all the excitement of having a newborn) as his home brewed beer (he makes with his best friend under the name Fierce Bad Brewing) won TWO silver medals at the Colorado State Fair Foamfest this year for deliciousness! Last year they won two bronze, so perhaps next year they'll take gold...?

On a sadder note, pray for Noah's uncle Justin as he is undergoing surgery this morning after suffering two brain aneurysms now. He is in an excellent hospital in Seattle and has made it this far (few aneurysm victims are so lucky) so we're praying for recovery. You can read more here.

I was very lucky this morning, as Eisley slept long enough for me to get some much needed cleaning done! I even did two loads of laundry (it's been months since I've seen the bottom of our hamper).

So while Eisley was doing this in our bed:

I was fretting over this mess:

But since she was asleep in bed (and I didn't want to move her because this was precious "Mommy Time" I didn't want to lose!) I couldn't make it, so I just tidied up barely:

This is the bassinet Eisley sleeps in for now. We found it on Craigslist for $15!

With my bedroom tidied up, I moved on to Eis's, which was in horrid condition but I didn't get a picture of before, so here's after - plus her door sign I made her :)

It feels so good to have this clean again

Her cloth diapers all folded and ready to be pooped on:

Then I moved onto our "guest bath" which daddy claimed for himself months ago and thus was very very messy! Since I never use it, I don't realize how dirty it gets until I walk in there, and my face is just like that lady in the shower on the movie Psycho.

And I even had enough time to clean up MY bathroom (our master bath). But I hate how non-decorated it is, so here's the only pretty part of it:

When Eisley started to come awake, I took her to be changed (more cleaning! never ends...) but I was rewarded with smiles. Unfortunately, this is the only pic I could get of her smiling and its not the best but you get the idea.

Now I'm going to go enjoy my clean baby and semi-clean house until daddy comes home and we start tearing it apart again.

Cheers :)
